Microsoft Flight Simulator has been lacking a good Milan Malpensa airport pretty much since its release, but Aerosoft is finally here to fill that gap.

The airport which bears the ICAO code LIMC and is the second busiest in Italy and the 23rd in Europe, will launch tomorrow, November 28, 2024.

While it’ll be initially for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, Aerosoft mentioned on its official Discord server that an update to ensure full Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 compatibility is coming in the next few weeks and will be free.

Here’s what you can expect in terms of features.

  • Accurate replica of Milan Malpensa Airport (LIMC/MXP) with the current layout in 2024
  • Detailed terminal buildings with visible interiors modeled from airside
  • High-quality custom objects including taxiway signage and lighting fixtures
  • Realistic night lighting effects with dynamic lighting
  • Custom aerial imagery of the airport and surrounding area
  • Compatible with Aerosoft VDGS module with Safedock T-1 systems
  • Dynamic environment with custom apron vehicle traffic and terminal train animations
  • Accurate terrain elevation mesh and runway profiles
  • AI traffic support with airline-specific parking assignments

We also get to see the airport in a rather spiffy trailer. Since it’s my home airport, I can definitely tell you that the reproduction looks spot-on at a cursory glance.

Funnily, the trailer features an ANA 787 landing at Malpensa. ANA has currently no presence at Malpensa, but the keyword is “currently.”

In Early December the Japanese airline is launching its Milan-Tokyo flights served by its Boeing 787s, and it’s going to be the first direct flight between the northern Italian city and Japan since the demise of Alitalia a few years ago.

If you know me, you also know I travel to Japan often and I’ll be taking that very flight in January, so farewell Air China. I won’t miss you one bit.

That aside, Microsoft Flight Simulator is currently available for PC and Xbox Series X|S. The initial release of this airport is only for PC, but a launch for the official marketplace including Xbox is planned.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is also available for the same platforms. if you want to see some of the differences, you can enjoy our video and screenshot comparison.
