Last week, Frontier Developments, the developer and publisher behind the hit online space flight simulator Elite Dangerous, announced its release date for the Ascendancy update on October 28, 2024. Today, it was revealed that the original Tuesday release would be slightly delayed and that the new content would arrive on October 31, 2024.
The new Halloween release date is because the developers wanted to adjust an issue with NPCs still being more aggressive than intended. In the post announcing the delay, Frontier Developments detailed that servers will go offline at 6:00 GMT and that it will be completed at 15:00 GMT, with Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy being available to play in full.
When Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy goes live, it will completely reset your Powerplay ranks, requiring you to pledge to a Power if you want to use Powerplay at release. Alongside this, the Mandalay, the newest exploration ship, will also be available in early access via Arx and will be available for credits in the future.
The new ship and Powerplay 2.0 will be the main focus of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy. The new system will improve the role foot activity plays, increase activity influence, and even introduce new powers.
In the decade since Elite Dangerous launched back in 2014, the MMO has seen two large expansions, both of which continue the ongoing narrative centered around political intrigue, corporate espionage, and a galaxy-wide war against the extraterrestrial threat of the Thargoids.
The official patch notes will also be unveiled upon full release. Elite Dangerous is currently available for $5.99 for the Steam Halloween discount, with the deluxe edition also marked down to $9.99.
