Today Mages and Nitroplus announced that a new Steins;Gate game is coming, titled Steins;Gate Re:Boot.
The game was announced at the Steins;Gate 15th Live – One World event at the Mori no Hall 21 in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, hosted to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the original Steins;Gate, which originally released on October 15, 2009, for Xbox 360.
As the title implies, it’ll be a reboot of the original game, albeit details are scarce at the moment. We don’t know the platforms but we do know that it’ll be released in 2025.
We also know that the visuals will be redone and the story will be integrated with new content, that being said, the original character designer Huke will be back and you can check out the main visual artwork below, portraying familiar protagonist Rintaro Okabe, Kurisu Makise, and Mayuri Shiina.
We also get a trailer, which you can watch below, showcasing the rest of the beloved cast.
If you’re unfamiliar with Steins;Gate, it’s the second game of the Science Adventure franchise by mages following Chaos;Head, and it’s arguably the most popular.
Following its release for Xbox 360, it has been launched on several more platforms across PC and consoles. It also received an anime series in 2011 that multiplied its popularity, and the new version Steins;Gate Elite, which uses visuals from the anime itself.
We also got a sequel, Steins;Gate 0, in 2015.
The visual novel is so popular that it expanded to pretty much every form of media in Japan, and it’s considered by many one of the best games in the genre ever created.
Much of the content has been localized and it’s available in English on multiple platforms, including Steam. Currently, the localization rights are held by Spike Chunsoft.
If you’re interested in visual novels, we’re still waiting for the currently delayed English release of another of the most beloved games in the genre, Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, due to Steam apparently dragging its feet.
Another legendary visual novel, To Heart, is also getting a remake.
